An examination of the relationship between secondary school students’ abstract thinking skills, self-efficacy perceptions and attitudes towards mathematics

This study aims to examine whether there is a relationship between abstract thinking skills, self-efficacy perceptions and attitude towards mathematics how these variables predict achievement. The was conducted with 198 eighth-grade students who were selected by random sampling the relational screening model used. For data collection, tools of “Abstract Thinking Test in Mathematics”, “Self-Efficacy Perception Scale “Mathematics Attitude Scale” Mathematics course notes resorted to. According findings, it concluded that significant relationships students’ attitudes mathematics, explained 37% variance There no difference achievement groups according type school, while found scores students' differed favor studying non-boarding secondary school. In addition, observed terms their boarding status. It differences other three variables. Suggestions made increase achievement, especially schools, also offered feasibility environment schools.
